Welcome to my practice and my blog! I am an attorney with over two decades in the legal field. I’ve been successfully representing clients in North Carolina from the mountains to the coast (based in Charlotte), though for years I worked for law firms. I recently chose to work for myself because I wanted to focus on what I found really rewarding as an attorney: working with people to solve real-world problems.
Why wills, trusts, and estates? It’s an area that way too many people overlook (including me, for years). When we had our twins, I felt the weight of the world, not just to raise them right, but to care for them if my wife or I couldn’t be there. I thought I had it figured out. We completed a will assigning guardianship, got life insurance, and named them as beneficiaries on our work policies.
But then I saw, though family and friends’ experiences, how this can go wrong. If something did happen, did I really want my kids inheriting a large sum, disbursed to them by the courts at age 18? Or for this to be made public through the costly probate process? What about the intangibles my wife and I hoped to pass on? What if one of us re-married, would our legacy be protected for the kids?
The unfortunate stories of parents leaving their families behind too soon are too real to ignore, and taking a few hours to put a working, caring estate plan in place is too simple not to consider. But we all put things off, right? Especially when we’re discussing death or incapacity. I did for years. Without putting a real plan in place, I was leaving a mess behind, with an unintentional “good luck!” We had invested in our retirement with our financial advisor, but we hadn’t taken care of our estate.
In 2025, I’d had enough. I put a thorough, thoughtful plan in place and opened this practice to help others do the same. This shouldn’t be left to luck.
A different model
When I worked for law firms, I was beholden to the billable hour. I hated slicing and dicing time to the tenth of an hour, and clients hated knowing the clock started when I picked up the phone. I wanted to help people without clients having to hold back. That’s why I operate on a flat-fee basis. When we meet, we’ll discuss the different options for your situation, and you’ll select the plan and fee that works best for you.
I’ve earned the designation of being a Personal Family Lawyer. As such, I’m part of a nationwide network of like-minded attorneys. We share knowledge and strategies. We favor flat fees over the billable hour. We employ a client-first mentality to build a holistic estate plan. Anybody can fill out forms and send you a bill; our planning process goes beyond forms to address the entire legacy you hope to leave for your family, as well as ensuring they’re cared for when it matters most.
